SUMMARY:33rd Annual Schooner Wharf Bar Minimal Regatta
DESCRIPTION:The $20 entry fee for the 33rd annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta will benefit the local American Legion Post 28.\nThis unique event\, taking place on Sunday\, May 26\, near the Schooner Wharf Bar at 202 William St. in the Key West Historic Seaport\, features boats constructed from minimal materials: a single sheet of 4-by-8-foot plywood\, two 8-foot-long two-by-fours\, a roll of duct tape\, and a pound of fasteners. \nTeams of up to six members must keep their boats afloat long enough to complete a short course\, with at least one "designated passenger" on board. \nThe regatta encourages creative and themed entries\, with past designs including alligators\, spaceships\, and pirate ships.\nCostumes have ranged from Gilligan's Island characters to Batman & the Joker. \nPrizes will be awarded for the fastest boat\, most creative design\, best paint job\, sportsmanship\, and best costumes\, with "sinker" awards for boats that fail to stay afloat. \nAdditionally\, the Schooner Wharf Bar will host its traditional Memorial Day weekend barbecue.

DESCRIPTION:The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Children’s Animal Farm is located within the premises of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Stock Island Detention Center.\nManaged by the Sheriff’s Office\, the Animal Farm displays a wide variety of animals. \nTypical farm animals like: \n\nminiature horses\nAngus the steer\nchickens\npigs\ngoats\nrabbits\n\nExotic animals such as: \n\nMo the Sloth\na Kinkajou\nKelsey the Lemur\nalpacas (Snowflake\, Arabella\, Lilo\, and Stitch)\nan albino python\npeacocks\nnumerous tropical birds\n\nEstablished in 1994\, the farm initially occupied an open area beneath the jail facility. The Stock Island Detention Center\, built to withstand a Category Five Hurricane\, is elevated on stilts approximately 11 feet above ground level. \nBelow the building\, there is employee parking and a secure fenced area designated for inmate evacuation in case of a fire. It was in this initially unused gravel space within the evacuation area that the farm was established.
