SUMMARY:Sixth Annual Standup Paddle Invitational 2017
DESCRIPTION:Inclusive paddle event for Special Olympics athletes and Stand Up Paddlers nationwide! Family fun for the weekend in beautiful Key West — everyone is invited! \nThe 2017 SUP Invitational will include a weekend of family fun in Key West\, including activities for paddlers and non-paddlers of all ability levels. Proceeds from all events will benefit Special Olympics Florida – Monroe County. More than 100 Special Olympics athletes\, coaches\, families\, and fans are expected to take part in this must-attend event. \n\nFriday October 13\, 2017-  Athletes Reception at Lucy’s Retired Surfer Bar and Restaurant on Grinnell Street in Old Town Key West.\n\n4 pm- 7 pm– Check In/Packet Pick Up Open- Get registered to race\, purchase dinner and raffle tickets\, meet our awesome Special Olympics atheltes\, Taco Bar Buffet available. \nSpecial Olympics teams can Jump on a Historic Tours of America Trolley for a tour of Old Key West and MORE! Pick up and drop off locations and times to be announced. \n\nSaturday October 14 \, 2017- Higgs Beach\, \n\n1pm- 3 pm- #ChooseToInclude Unified Relay Races\nTeams of 3\, made up of two Special Olympics paddlers and one traditional paddler. Race registration of $25 includes a T-shirt and instructional clinic about Unified Sports in Special Olympics. Each registered typical paddler will have the opportunity to meet and pair up with Special Olympics paddlers during the clinic. \n3 pm- Check In Opens- take time to check out the race course\, play some volleyball or beach games with Special Olympics athletes. \n3 pm- 4:00 pm-Special Olympics Coaches Meeting/Training-Mandatory for all coaches attending the Special Olympics races and open to all other Special Olympics Coaches who wish to learn more. This will be a round table discussion and race overview with Sue Cooper\, our race director. \n4:30 pm- Traditional Special Olympics Opening Ceremonies (Note- depending on weather\, this may be moved closer to time of Sunset- TBD) \n5:30 pm- 7:00 pm Preferred Properties Beachside Luau and dance celebration with DJ and music provided by Historic Tours of America (our FUN Sponsor)\n  \n\nSunday October 15\, 2017 – Race Day- Higgs Beach\n\n7:00 am– Check in \n7:30 am– Special Olympics Coaches and Volunteer Meetings \n8:00 am– Special Olympics Races Start- Level 2\, 3 and 4 \n11:30 am – Open Race 2 mile paddle with a beach obstacle course\, Level 1 Special Olympics Paddlers included\, hosted by Lazy Dog Paddle Shack\, \nRaffle tickets for some awesome prizes will be sold all weekend!
