The $20 entry fee for the 33rd annual Schooner Wharf Minimal Regatta will benefit the local American Legion Post 28.

This unique event, taking place on Sunday, May 26, near the Schooner Wharf Bar at 202 William St. in the Key West Historic Seaport, features boats constructed from minimal materials: a single sheet of 4-by-8-foot plywood, two 8-foot-long two-by-fours, a roll of duct tape, and a pound of fasteners.

Teams of up to six members must keep their boats afloat long enough to complete a short course, with at least one "designated passenger" on board.

The regatta encourages creative and themed entries, with past designs including alligators, spaceships, and pirate ships.

Costumes have ranged from Gilligan's Island characters to Batman & the Joker.

Prizes will be awarded for the fastest boat, most creative design, best paint job, sportsmanship, and best costumes, with "sinker" awards for boats that fail to stay afloat.

Additionally, the Schooner Wharf Bar will host its traditional Memorial Day weekend barbecue.
